Swanston is a dynamic tech innovator and media magnate known for his ability to forecast industry shifts, identify opportunities and take calculated risks. His journey, from having just $9 in his pocket to achieving one of the few nine-figure exits by a Black American, speaks to his exceptional vision and drive. A regular contributor to Bloomberg, Forbes, WSJ, and THR, Swanston co-founded and led Tru Optik, a top data and identity firm for streaming media ads. TransUnion acquired it in 2020, marking one of the ten largest exits by a Black American CEO and making Swanston the youngest on that list at 39. At the time, Tru Optik was a key provider for Connected TV, streaming audio, and gaming.
Swanston has received awards for his accomplishments with Tru Optik. From 2020 to 2023, he served on the Board of Connecticut Innovations, appointed by Governor Ned Lamont to help oversee the state’s venture fund for economic development and innovation. In 2023, André launched Swanston Organization, a family office, serving as the hub for his investments, ventures, and philanthropy, with a focus on disruptive tech and innovative solutions that drive both impact and growth. In 2024, Swanston acquired a Major League Soccer NEXT Pro expansion team– Connecticut United FC – and is the first Black principal owner in the league and one of only a few Black team owners in modern U.S. sports history.
